Shots Fired Report 10/23/2022: West Main St.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – On October 23rd at approximately 1:00 a.m., Charlottesville police officers responded to the 200 block of West Main St. for a shots fired report.
Upon arrival, officers found three victims who had suffered gunshot wounds. The victims were then transported to UVA medical center for treatment; two of whom are currently in stable condition. The third victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased later in the morning.
We would like the public to know that this incident poses no immediate threat to our community. This is currently an ongoing investigation.

On October 23rd at approximately 1:00 a.m., Charlottesville Police Officers responded to a shots fired report near the 200th block of West Main St. Two male individuals were involved in an altercation that occurred inside of a bar where shots were fired. More shots were then fired outside of the bar. The victim, who was later identified as Davonn J. Wilson, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was later pronounced deceased at UVA Medical Center.
Additionally, two female bystanders were struck by the gunfire and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Both are in stable condition and recovering at UVA Medical Center. At this time, we believe this is an isolated incident and not connected with previous acts of gun violence. The public should be assured that emergencies or critical incidents such as these are the number one priority of the Charlottesville Police Department. It is our responsibility to protect and serve those who live in, work in, and visit our community.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - On Sunday October 23, Charlottesville Police Officers responded to a shots fired report near the 200 Block of West Main St. Two individuals were involved in an altercation and Davonn J. Wilson suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead at the UVA Medical Center.
This past Friday, October 28, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Marcel Darell Washington of Charlotte North Carolina was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with the second degree murder of Mr. Wilson and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Mr. Washington was arrested in Tennessee and extradition proceedings are underway. He does not yet have an appearance date in Charlottesville General District Court.
The felony warrants were obtained last Tuesday, October 25, and since that date Detectives with the Charlottesville Police Department had been working closely with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office and the United States Marshall’s Service to locate and arrest Mr. Washington.
While the Charlottesville Police Department and Commonwealth Attorney’s Office understand that there has been significant interest in the status of the investigation, proceeding in a manner that protects the integrity of the case and ensures the safety of all involved is always of paramount importance.
Arrest warrants are charging documents and not evidence of guilt. Neither the Charlottesville Police Department nor the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office will have further comment related to this ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.
