A Joint Statement from the County of Albemarle and City of Charlottesville

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA - On November 13, 2022, a shooting incident with multiple fatalities occurred at the University of Virginia in the vicinity of Culbreth Road.  This incident is heartbreaking and our thoughts are with the victims’ families, the University community, and our broader community.

At this time, the suspect, Christopher Darnell Jones, Jr., is in custody.  We are grateful to the law enforcement personnel across the Commonwealth for their efforts to locate and apprehend the suspect.

We encourage everyone to sign up for local alert systems including CodeRED and UVA Alerts.
