Commonwealth's Attorney: Use of Force Justified and Reasonable
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – On February 28, 2023, six members of the Albemarle County Police Department used deadly force in the City of Charlottesville resulting in the death of Billy James Sites. The Albemarle officers were assisting Charlottesville officers who were attempting to serve Mr. Sites with outstanding criminal warrants.
The report below summarizes in detail the results of an investigation conducted by the Virginia State Police.

After reviewing all the evidence in this incident, the Commonwealth's Attorney has concluded that the use of deadly force was justifiable and objectively reasonable. The Commonwealth's Attorney's investigation of, and involvement in, this matter is therefore concluded.
