Charlottesville Parks & Recreation has updated its list of closures and cancellations


CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Charlottesville Parks & Recreation has updated its list of closures and cancellations due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) which includes the upcoming summer season. Charlottesville Parks & Recreation and the City of Charlottesville will monitor the situation and make an assessment on when it is safe to re-open some or all of the affected facilities/amenities.

2020 Summer Season Facility Closures and Cancellations

  • Swimming Pools
  • Spray Grounds
  • Summer Camps

Closed Facilities/Amenities (until further notice)

  • All Indoor Recreation Centers and Pools
  • All Playgrounds on Park or City School Property
  • All Outdoor Basketball Courts, Tennis Courts and Picnic Shelters
  • Park Restrooms
  • Parking Lots at the Following Parks: McIntire Park, Pen Park, Tonsler Park and Washington Park
  • Meadowcreek Golf Course
  • Charlottesville Skate Park
  • Sugar Hollow Reservoir
  • Downtown Administration Office

Programs/Events Cancellations

  • Registered programs at closed facilities are cancelled until further notice.  Some programs and/or virtual programs may be able to be added on a limited basis at a later date.  All special events for the summer season are cancelled.

Open Facilities

  • All Outdoor Parks and Trails (see list of park amenities closed above).  Utilize physical distancing of at least 6 feet apart while using parks and trails.

City Market

  • City Market To-Go will continue to operate in the pre-order and drive-thru model. 

Dog Park Guidelines

  • Dog parks are open, but are limited to only ten (10) people at a time in the fenced in area until further notice.

Customers affected by the program/event cancellations will receive additional information from Parks & Recreation regarding refund options.
