Charlottesville City Council passes measure to support local restaurants opening while practicing physical distancing

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - In response to Governor Northam’s Executive Order 61, City Council  has temporarily suspended a portion of the restrictions regulating required parking set forth in the City of Charlottesville Zoning Ordinance Sec. 34-984. The ordinance was passed unanimously by Council on Monday.

Restaurants, dining establishments, food courts, breweries, microbreweries, distilleries, wineries, and tasting rooms may have an opportunity to operate delivery, take-out, and outdoor dining and beverage services from areas normally required for customer and employee parking. Temporary suspension of enforcement will apply only to parking.

Establishments must still comply with all other City of Charlottesville Zoning Ordinance and Site Plan regulations including maintaining ingress, egress, Fire lanes and ADA routes. Additionally, the City of Charlottesville recommends the use of traffic rated barriers at all points where seating areas are adjacent to travel lanes or active parking spaces.
