Smoke Alarm Saves Father and Daughter from Fire
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - A working smoke alarm alerted two occupants in another room of a fire allowing them to escape and call 911.
Just after 1:00 PM on September 11, two occupants of a home on Grady Ave were alerted by a working smoke alarm. The smoke alarm sounded and a father went to investigate. Once seeing the fire in the home, he immediately evacuated his child and called 911. Charlottesville firefighters arrived in three minutes and immediately entered the house and extinguished the fire. No one was hurt and many of the contents of the home were saved from major damage.
Please take a moment and check your smoke alarms to ensure they are working. A working smoke alarm, as evident today, saves lives! The Charlottesville Fire Department also wants to remind you to "get out and stay out." In the event of a fire, evacuate quickly, call 911, and don’t re-enter the building.
