The Charlottesville Police Department has identified two individuals killed in Saturday’s single-vehicle accident on 5th Street SW.
Devin Jaron Stinnie, a 28-year-old resident of Charlottesville, and Rashod Demetris Walton, a 23-year-old resident of Scottsville, were pronounced dead at the scene. Damian Jemar Stinnie, a 28-year-old resident of Charlottesville, was transported to UVA Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The accident is under investigation by the Charlottesville Police Department’s Traffic Unit. The Charlottesville Police Department sends their condolences to the Stinnie and Walton families, who have been tragically impacted by this accident.
This is the third fatal accident on 5th Street this year, resulting in 4 deaths. In memory of those who have died, CPD is asking motorists to be mindful of their speed.
While the posted speed limit on 5th Street is 45 mph, there are many situations where a lower speed would be appropriate, including inclement weather, roadway conditions, and increased pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

On October 10, 2020, at approximately 0343 hours, Charlottesville Police Department responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 700 block of 5th Street SW.
Two people are confirmed deceased, and one person was transported to UVA Hospital in critical condition. The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation by the CPD Traffic Unit.
This is the third fatal crash 5th Street investigated by CPD in less than three months.
