The Charlottesville Police Department is pleased to welcome three new officers who have just graduated from the Central Shenandoah Criminal Justice Training Academy’s 142nd Basic Law Enforcement class.

Officers S. Alfonso, C. Lowe, and T. Whitten will be sworn-in at a private, virtual ceremony inside City Council Chambers on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at 10 a.m.

These ceremonies are typically marked by special occasions with family and the public, but pandemic restrictions have once again forced us to live-stream it to ensure they could be a part of this momentous occasion.  You can watch the live stream here.

“The calls for police reform been heard far and wide over the last several months, including here in Charlottesville, and we are committed to hiring those are will uphold our values of serving everyone in our community equally,” said Chief RaShall Brackney. "I am proud to welcome these new officers to our community and am certain they strive for excellence and deliver on our promise of providing “Service Beyond the Call.""

The COVID-19 pandemic has also become a contributing factor in lower-than-normal numbers for officer recruits, with only two more officers expected to be sworn in from the upcoming January 2021 academy class. CPD is aiming to recruit 16 officers for the July 2021 academy class.
