FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On January 4, 2021, at 1334 hours, Charlottesville Police officers responded to a disorder with a weapon in the 1900 block of Emmet Street North.

Witnesses reported multiple shots were fired, and the involved individuals fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.  A short time later, the gunshot victim arrived at a local hospital. At this time, the victim is being treated and no additional information is available.

Multiple suspects were detained by the Albemarle County Police Department, and custody was transferred to the Charlottesville Police Department, who continues to investigate the incident.  Arrest and charging details will be released at a later time.

Officers located multiple bullet casings in the northbound lanes of Emmet Street, which caused a portion of the road between Angus Road and Hydraulic Road to be shut down while Forensic personnel collected these items.  Emmet Street was reopened to traffic about 90 minutes later.

This is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no continued threat to public safety. Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the Charlottesville Police Department at (434) 970-3280 or Crime Stoppers at (434) 977-4000.
