[ARCHIVED] U.S. 250 Bypass Crash Claims the Life of Albemarle County Man

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 14, 2021

On January 13, 2021, at 18:02 hours, Charlottesville Police Department officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with entrapment in the 800 block of the U.S. 250 Bypass near the Locust Avenue interchange.

Officers arrived on scene to find three vehicles involved in the crash. At this time, it appears a Hyundai Elantra was traveling eastbound on the 250 Bypass when it crossed the median and collided head-on with a Toyota Tacoma traveling westbound.

The driver of the Hyundai, Anthony Douglas Cureton, a 49-year-old resident of Albemarle County, was transported to UVA Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. CPD sends condolences to the family and friends of Cureton.

The driver of the Toyota was not injured.

A portion of the 250 Bypass was closed for nearly four hours while CPD’s Traffic and Forensic units responded to reconstruct the crash scene and collect evidence. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Traffic Unit.
