CPD Provides Update in Shooting Incident


CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The Charlottesville Police Department provides an update regarding the shooting of a 2 year old male in the 900 block of 1st St S that occurred January 14, 2022.


UPDATE: 1/22/22 - Rquis Jones and Diamond Owens are in custody at the Charlottesville/Albemarle Regional Jail, after turning themselves in this evening.

The Charlottesville Police Department continues to investigate the shooting of a 2 year old male in the 900 block of 1st St S that occurred January 14, 2022. Detectives have been following up on leads and other investigative efforts to apprehend Diamond Owens and R’Quis Jones who are both charged in this incident.

Arrangements have been made for the care and safety of the child(ren) involved in this incident. The victim in this incident is still receiving treatment at the UVA Hospital.

Family members of both suspects in this incident have been interviewed with few positive leads resulting. CPD is asking for the community’s help with apprehending these 2 individuals on the following charges:


Diamond Owens:

18.2-371.1 X2 - Felony Child Neglect

18.2-56.2 – Allowing Access to Firearms by Children
