The Department of Human Services published a 2018 edition of Steppings Stones: A Report on Community Well-Being of Children and Families in the Charlottesville/Albemarle Area.
The Stepping Stones report, updated in 2023, provides trend data for over 40 measures related to the well-being of children and families in the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County. A supplemental report includes a subset of these measures shown separately by race and ethnicity to better understand existing inequities in the region.
Created in partnership between The Equity Center at the University of Virginia and the Charlottesville Department of Human Services (DHS), the report primarily uses publicly available data alongside additional context, including an overview of how the measure impacts youth and known limitations of the data and its source.
