Local Water Organizations Host Annual Imagine a Day Without Water Art Contest

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The City of Charlottesville, Albemarle County Service Authority (ACSA), and Rivanna Water & Sewer Authority (RWSA) join up for the 10th annual "Imagine a Day without Water" national campaign to educate and inspire the community about the value of water in our everyday lives.

Each year, the City, ACSA, and RWSA ask youth to artistically show the community why we must value and save water as part of a national campaign to “Imagine a Day without Water”. This year’s art contest includes added entry submittal flexibility to ensure even more of our community’s youth can participate in the contest opportunity to learn and illustrate the importance of water.

The 2024 Imagine a Day without Water Art Contest challenges youth to show us “What’s Your Drop in the Bucket” in their artistic creations. Art submissions will be accepted September 30th through October 28th. The contest will be open to all youth in grades K – 12th living in the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County. Submissions must be original, 2-dimentional creations but can be any size and may include photography.

All Imagine a Day without Water art entries must be submitted by October 28th. Submissions will be accepted via direct mail to the Charlottesville Water Conservation (PO Box 911, Charlottesville, VA 22902) or electronically through our submission and online voting platform (LINK). In addition, there is an opportunity to drop off entries in-person at the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library’s Central, Northside, and Crozet Branches during their normal hours of service. All submissions must have the official entry form (PDF) attached or digitally submitted.

Last year’s contest was a huge success bringing in 271 entries, and we are excited for increased participation this year. There will be cash prizes awarded to the finalists in different age categories, top photography entry, and a fan favorite will be selected by the community (online voting available November 18th through December 4th). Winners will be announced via press release on December 11th. Four teachers will also be honored for their support of the contest and campaign through a random drawing as well as the teacher that had the most students participate.

“Water plays an essential role in every aspect of our lives; thus, we all need a bucket full of water”, said Jill Greiner, the City’s Water Efficiency Program Coordinator. “How will we make sure the future of our water stays safe and our buckets stay full? We must make sure every drop counts and only use what you need. With this year’s art contest, we hope the community’s youth let their creativity flow!”
