Assistant Chief Daniel J. Meehan was born in Connecticut where he spent his childhood. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served in the Persian Gulf War.
Having completed his military service, he was hired by the Henrico County Sheriff’s Office where he served a short time as a Deputy Sheriff Jailor before being hired by the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) as a deputy. Serving eight years with the ACSO, Meehan held positions as a Road Deputy, School Resource Officer, and Tactical Unit team member before being hired by the Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) in 2004.
With the LPD, he has served with the Street Crimes Unit, Personnel and Training Unit, Tactical Unit, and the Field Operations Bureau. Meehan holds an undergraduate degree from Liberty University.
