CPD has two LGBTQIA+ Liaison on staff to help ensure all members of our community are supported and have knowledgeable contact in the department.
The Charlottesville Office of Human Rights receives individual complaints of discrimination, conducts community outreach, and provides staff support to the Human Rights Commission. Community members can also file an eligible Human Rights Complaint on their website.
The Human Rights Commission’s purpose is to act as a strong advocate for justice and equal opportunity by providing citywide leadership and guidance in the area of civil and human rights, and to act as an advisory body to City Council in matters pertaining to human and civil rights.

OCR is the law enforcement agency within HHS that is responsible for guaranteeing that people are free from discrimination based on race, color, national origin (including primary language), disability, age, religion, and sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity) by certain health care and human services. On Our Own hosts a Queer Support Virtual meeting weekly to ensure there is a safe and affirming space for LGBTQIA+ folks who are experiencing challenges with mental health, substance use, or trauma.
This group from Region Ten Community Service Board at the Blue Ridge Center works to create a safe space to support and empower one another and process feelings/emotions relating to issues impacting the LGBTQ+ community.
