City of Charlottesville and Partners Celebrate Invasive Species Awareness Week

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The City of Charlottesville, in partnership with Charlottesville’s Invasive Plant Partnership (CHIPP) and other local organizations, is celebrating National Invasive Species Awareness Week (NISAW) from February 24 to 28 for the first time ever. This annual recognition highlights the importance of managing invasive plant species that threaten Charlottesville’s urban tree canopy. Through educational events that span over the entire week, local leaders and partners aim to raise awareness and promote accessible solutions to combat invasive species. By working together, the community can protect its urban tree canopy and mobilize community members to be stewards to our natural resources and ensure the City of Charlottesville’s vision: to be a place where everyone thrives.

The community is invited to attend the following events throughout the week of February 24-28:

  • Rivanna Master Naturalists Invasives Walk
    • February 25, 1:30 PM
    • Meet at the golf course by the golf cart storage shed in Pen Park
