Building Performance

The City tracks energy and water performance for all facilities (municipal and school) to actively monitor and manage operations. Additionally, to seeing how each facility performs compared to itself overtime, all major buildings are benchmarked using ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager to understand how they compare to like facilities nationwide.   

The Energy and Water Management Program also supports the City's Climate Action efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The City's municipal targets to support the City meeting their rection goals within the committed timeline can be viewed on the City's Sustainability Dashboard (LINK). 

  • Energy Reduction Goal: 30% reduction in Energy Use Intensity by FY2030
  • Water Reduction Goal: 30% reduction in Water Use Intensity by FY2030

Annual Municipal and School Energy and Water Performance  

The Energy and Water Management Program have put out their FY2024 Annual Energy and Water Performance Report!

This report provides an update of the Energy and Water Management Program and related actions that contributed to improving energy and water performance of municipal facilities throughout the 2024 fiscal year (FY2023). The actions highlighted in the report show the City’s progress and multiple approaches toward meeting our climate and efficiency goals and implementing essential improvements and upgrades to the municipal facilities.

Annual Charlottesville City Schools Energy and Water Performance

The Energy and Water Management Program have published an update to the 2019 CCS Annual Water and Energy Performance Report. This report provides an overview of the Energy and Water Management Program and related actions that contributed to improving energy and water performance of school facilities in the 2020 calendar year. After the 2020 report, the EWMP is providing an update on school performance as part of their annual City-wide fiscal year report update.
