Attic Air Sealing Rebate

Charlottesville Gas is offering a $150 rebate towards attic air sealing measures when performed by a licensed contractor. Air leaks in the attic can allow conditioned air - whether heated or cooled - to escape, leading to higher energy consumption. Sealing the attic involves plugging holes and filling cracks to prevent these air leaks. This process improves home comfort, enhances air quality, and boosts energy efficiency by keeping conditioned air inside the home. And if you are installing upgraded attic insulation, addressing your attic's air sealing should be done at the same time to maximize the effectiveness of both measures.

$150 Attic Air Sealing Rebate Requirements

• Customer must be the home/rental property owner and be in good credit standing with the City of Charlottesville
• Must use natural gas for home heating*
• Available to existing single-family homes only, and does not apply to garages or new construction
• Valid for attic air sealing installed between April 14, 2025, and June 30, 2026
• A licensed contractor must perform attic air sealing
• Only one attic air sealing rebate per property address
• Dealers/contractors are not eligible to receive their customer's rebate 
  *Natural gas fireplaces do not qualify as the primary source of home heating.

Note: Charlottesville Department of Utilities reserves the right to verify completed jobs before payment of a rebate. Rebate programs are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Funding and guidelines for these programs may be changed or discontinued at any time without notice.

All applications require the following documentation: 

• Copy of the invoice with an itemized cost of the attic air sealing performed 
• Completed Attic Air Sealing Rebate Form (PDF)
