The Investigations Division consists of the General Investigations Bureau and the Forensic Bureau. The General Investigations Bureau is a collaboration of multiple units:
- Fraud Unit
- Major Case
- Narcotics
- Property Crimes
- Special Victim’s
The Bureau is supported by multiple supervisors and detectives, providing 24/7 coverage to the City of Charlottesville.
Responsibilities
The Investigations Division’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Investigating crimes, recovering, identifying, and arranging the return of stolen property
- Interviewing suspects and witnesses
- Presenting investigations to the Commonwealth’s Attorney for review and/or prosecution
Crime Patterns
The Investigations Division proactively analyzes crime patterns throughout our community to address potential community safety issues and to prevent crime.
Helping All Divisions
The Forensics Bureau supports all Divisions of the police department and is responsible for the collection and storage of all evidence related to investigations. The Forensics Bureau is staffed with both sworn and civilian personnel.
