  2. Fix a Leak Home Scavenger Hunt

    Help us bring attention to the importance of finding and fixing leaks in your home by participating in our Fix a Leak Events! Put on your detective hat and help us find and fix leaks in your home by going on your own home scavenger hunt. Complete this home scavenger hunt and submit your answers by April 13th to be entered to win a special prizes! You can attach your completed Home Scavenger Hunt here or fill in your answers below.

    Only those living in the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County are eligible for prizes.

  4. Did you FIND and FIX a water leak with the help of the Home Scavenger Hunt?*

    If you answered "YES" to any question- select "YES".

  5. If you have completed a paper Home Scavenger Hunt Worksheet (PDF) you can submit your responses directly here (you can scan or take a photo of your responses, just make sure your responses are legible). You only need to send the one side with the Yes/No questions in your bathroom, kitchen, laundry room and basement, and outside.

  6. Fix a Leak Home Scavenger Hunt

    Some leaks require a simple fix- a worn toilet flapper, loose pipe connection, or showerhead with stray spray. But you may want to consult a licensed plumber to stop your running toilet, broken sprinkler, water heater drips, or malfunctioning water supply lines.

  7. Bathroom

    Before we inspect the bathroom, we’ll need to grab some food coloring from the kitchen. Squirt a few drops in the upper tank of your toilet and wait 10 minutes.

  11. Do you notice any water leaking from the showerhead, tub spout, or handles?

    A Full dishwasher is the most water efficient!

  15. Do you see any pooling water around the dishwasher or refrigerator (with an ice maker)?

  17. Do you see any dripping water around your garden hose hookup?
  18. If you have a lawn sprinkler system, does it leak in places it shouldn't?
  19. Utility Room, Crawlspace, Basement, or Laundry

  21. Have you noticed any pooling water around your washing machine?

    Participants that have submitted a FULLY COMPLETED WORKSHEET by April 13th will be entered to win one of several $50 gift card from a local gardening business. Winners will be announced April 22nd.

  23. Celebrate Finding and Fixing Leaks all March!

    Fix a Leak Week (March 16th – 22nd) 

    Fix a Leak Week is a national campaign around the importance of fixing leaks. Check out our social media channels and keep an eye on the media for increased communication and tips around finding and fixing leaks in your home this week.

    Also, City of Charlottesville residents can request a Practical Plumbing Handbook!

  25. WaterSense
    • If your fixtures need replacing, remember to look for the WaterSense label when purchasing plumbing products. You can pick up WaterSense labeled faucet aerators and showerheads in the FREE water conservation kits from your water utility.
    • If your toilet is running, consider replacing it with a new WaterSense labeled toilet and check out the City of Charlottesville and ACSA Newly expanded $150 toilet rebate!
    • Skip watering when it rains and catch that rain with a rain barrel to use later. Check out the City of Charlottesville and ACSA $30 rain barrel rebate!
