Police Civilian Oversight Board Information
The City of Charlottesville Police Civilian Oversight Board (PCOB) exists as a vital link between the community and the City Police Department. Established in its current form under Virginia Code § 9.1-601, the PCOB is given authority to provide transparency into policing conduct, policy, and procedure. As outlined in Article XVI of the City Code, the PCOB holds regular monthly meetings and produces both monthly and annual reports detailing all activities, investigations, policy recommendations, and community engagement efforts. The Board plays a crucial role in analyzing departmental expenditures, reviewing data on police practices, and ensuring public trust through comprehensive documentation of findings in both complaint investigations and policy reviews. Provided here are reports and records which seek to demonstrate implementation of the PCOB's statutory authority.
