City Invites Community to Share Input on New Fitness Court at Tonsler Park

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The Charlottesville Parks & Recreation Department is hosting a public input session for a proposed outdoor Fitness Court® at Benjamin Tonsler Park. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Benjamin Tonsler Recreation Center (located inside Tonsler Park at 500 Cherry Avenue).

The City is seeking community feedback to help determine the optimal location for the court. Tonsler Park was selected for this new amenity based on input received during the Parks & Recreation Department’s Master Plan process, which identified strong neighborhood interest in outdoor fitness opportunities.

The Fitness Court® is part of the National Fitness Campaign, a nationwide initiative that promotes free access to outdoor exercise infrastructure to support healthier, more active communities and help combat sedentary lifestyles and preventable disease. Charlottesville’s participation in the program is made possible by a grant sponsored by Aetna. Fitness Courts® feature seven exercise zones designed to support a full-body circuit workout for users of varying fitness levels.
