Charlottesville Police Department to Host Firearm Safety and Buyback Event – November 22
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The Charlottesville Police Department (CPD) invites community members to participate in a no-questions-asked Firearm Safety and Buyback Program on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church.
This initiative is part of CPD’s ongoing commitment to promote public safety and reduce the risk of gun violence within our community.
Participants will receive gift cards in $25 increments for surrendered firearms.
No identification or paperwork is required.

Guidelines for Participation:
All firearms are accepted, including handguns, rifles, and shotguns.
Firearms must be unloaded and safely transported in a case, bag, or vehicle trunk.
The value of homemade or 3D-printed firearms will be determined on site.
Designated, secure drop-off zones will be monitored by CPD personnel to ensure safety throughout the event.
This event is about preventing tragedies before they happen,” said Chief Kochis. “Whether it’s turning in an unwanted firearm or learning more about safe storage, every step we take together makes a difference. Our goal is to reduce the risk of gun violence, accidental shootings, and theft, while strengthening trust and partnership between our department and the community we serve.”
CPD encourages all residents to take part in this voluntary program and join the effort to promote responsible gun ownership and community well-being.
