Welcome to Neighborhood Development Services

In support of the City’s vision to be a place where everyone thrives and the goals of the Comprehensive Plan, our department provides the Charlottesville community with a full spectrum of services. Services include Citywide and area-specific long-range planning and design, transportation planning, site development review, permitting and inspections for renovations and new construction, Property Maintenance enforcement, Zoning Ordinance enforcement and determinations, and stewardship for areas and properties with special historic and architectural significance.

The City has been made aware of attempts to defraud applicants via an email that contains an invoice made to appear to have come from the City of Charlottesville.

Please note that the City does not email invoices for permit or application fees except upon request. Do not respond to emails seeking payment. Log on to the City permit portal (link: https://permits.charlottesville.gov/portal) to pay fees securely.
