Assault Incident at Saint Paul’s Memorial Church


CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - This morning at approximately 9:45 a.m., officers responded to a report of an assault in between church services at Saint Paul’s Memorial Church, located at 1701 University Avenue.

An individual who was in church at the time, identified as Philip Salkowe, stood up and began physically assaulting multiple members of the congregation. No serious injuries were sustained during the incident.

Thanks to the quick actions of those in attendance, Mr. Salkowe was restrained until officers arrived and took him into custody without further incident.

Phillip Salkowe has been charged with seven counts of assault and battery.

“We are thankful for the brave actions of the congregants who intervened quickly to prevent more serious injuries”, said Chief Kochis.
