Tyquan Markie Dean Indicted for Homicide at Water St Parking Lot
On January 26, 2025, Jahaanz Wilson of Charlottesville was the victim of a homicide in the public parking lot located in the 200 block of West Water Street. Over the past year, detectives with the Charlottesville Police Department (CPD), working in close partnership with prosecutors from the Charlottesville Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, have conducted a thorough and exhaustive investigation into this case.
As a result of that work, a Charlottesville Grand Jury today returned indictments against Tyquan Markie Dean, a 20-year-old Charlottesville resident, charging him with the following:
- Second-Degree Murder (Va. Code § 18.2-32)
- Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony (Va. Code § 18.2-53.1)
Dean is currently in custody at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail on unrelated charges and has since been served with these additional indictments.
These indictments reflect the extensive and tireless efforts of CPD detectives, the critical initial response by patrol and forensic personnel, and the continued collaboration with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
Chief of Police, Michael Kochis, emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration in seeking justice for victims:
“This case reflects the relentless work of professional law enforcement officers and prosecutors standing shoulder to shoulder to ensure accountability and justice for the victim and their loved ones. Our detectives, patrol officers, forensic teams, and prosecutors have remained unwavering in their commitment, and we will continue to pursue the truth wherever it leads.”
Dean is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
